At MetaFLO Technologies, we spend a lot of time with our clients to get input on field requirements to enhance existing equipment performance or develop new solutions. This collaborative approach has been the basis for developing our equipment and reagents – whether for horizontal directional drilling (HDD) fluids, hydro excavation slurry, oil based drill mud (OBM) or more specialized formulas to provide geotechnical strength when beneficial reuse as a compactable fill is required.
This collaborative approach has been effective in developing new technologies. MetaFLO’s liquid mixing system (LMS-3) was the first solution, defined by our customers, to address the challenge of liquid waste management in the HDD sector. The objective was to create an easy to use machine, small operational footprint, high productivity, minimal labour, mobilized to the drill site to eliminate hauling liquids to expensive disposal sites or the need for costly and environmentally unsustainable bulking amendment options like sawdust.
We didn’t stop listening when this mission was accomplished and one of our clients said, “yeah, but can you build a machine that can run at ten times the volume of the LMS-3?”
This was the conception of MetaFLO’s LMS-4 (60 m3/hour) and LMS-6 (200 m3/hour) mixing units for large scale projects like tailings ponds and large HDD pulls.
In further consultation with our partners, MetaFLO was tasked with the development of another solution. Our clients wanted something to improve productivity and reduce labor for managing heavier semi-solid waste streams in addition to the fluids they were treating with the LMS models.
This was the conception of MetaFLO’s SSM. MetaFLO’s solution for the problem of HDD cuttings, hydro excavation slurry, pond sediment, dredge material and the many other heavier waste streams in need of solidification for lower cost transportation and disposal.
Both of these innovations began at the grassroots. The client identified a need. A solution was drawn up and a proof of concept was created. MetaFLO’s clients flew to our manufacturing facilities to participate in 1st generation model design ensuring details such as size, weight, productivity, mobility were considered. We invited our clients from multiple provinces, states, countries and industries to contribute so regulatory factors such as power and emissions had to be factored in.
