Hydro Excavation Mud – Pipeline Integrity Test

Pipeline integrity testing often requires hydro excavation to expose a segment of pipe for inspection. The resulting hydro excavation muds are often a regulated, challenging to dispose of and in some cases, contaminated. In 2015, MetaFLO licensee KBL was contracted by a major Canadian pipeline operator in Alberta to provide the solidification and disposal of 200 m3 of this waste.

Drill Mud Sump in Fort McMurray, Alberta

Large volume of oil and gas exploration drilling fluid stored in drill mud sump to be solidified in severe cold in Fort McMurray, AB in January. Long distance to liquids disposal site made liquid transport and disposal costs extremely high. After treatment, the solidified waste drill fluids were transported to a solids disposal site saving approximately 8 hours per load.
